The Cedar Swamp at the Tracker Camp -- Logging and regeneration

The map below shows the areas of the cedar swamp forest at the Tracker Camp that have been cut over the years.

Originally the whole area was covered with a mature cedar swamp forest -- majestic cedars 1.5 to 2 feet in diameter. Starting in 1972, one section at a time has been clearcut.

The 2000, 1999, 1998, and 1996 sections have a makeshift road running into the center of each section, made of smaller tree trunks.

 

This section of the Earth Caretaker website is to show a record of the regeneration of each section of this clearcut area over the years, starting in 2001 (I don't have any pictures of this area prior to 2001).
